Co ciekawe, rekordowy start początkowo wcale nie znajdował się w planach Kathy Grimes. Burley leżało jednak na jej trasie powrotnej, a po kilku rezygnacjach zawodniczka zdecydowała się skorzystać z możliwości walk-up i dopisać się do startu.
Decyzja okazała się wyjątkowo trafiona.

16.31 Seconds! Kathy Grimes and KG Just Money Set a New WPRA Record .
Kathy Grimes and her homebred gelding KG Just Money, better known as “Showie,” have made barrel racing history. At the Cassia County Fair and Rodeo in Burley, Idaho, the pair stopped the clock at an incredible 16.31 seconds, setting a new WPRA record on a standard pattern.
What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Grimes had not originally planned to compete in Burley.
With the rodeo conveniently located on her way home and several competitors having turned out, she decided to enter as a walk-up. It turned out to be a history-making decision.
Three 16-Second Runs in 24 Hours
Showie had already been having an exceptional weekend.
Grimes and the six-year-old gelding started with a 16.89-second run in Gooding, Idaho, on Friday night. The following morning, they clocked 16.80 seconds in Tremonton, Utah.
Then came Burley.
On Saturday night, the pair delivered their fastest performance yet — 16.31 seconds.
Three runs. Three times under 17 seconds. All within approximately 24 hours.
The Burley performance officially established a new WPRA standard-pattern record.
The previous record had stood for only a few weeks. On August 1, 2026, Sydney Graham and DuPont First clocked 16.49 seconds in Heber City, Utah, breaking the 16.53-second record set by Makenna Shook and XV Mario in Burley in 2025.
Grimes and Showie lowered the new mark by another 0.18 seconds.
A Record-Breaker Bred at Home
There is another special chapter to Showie’s story: he was bred by Grimes herself.
KG Just Money is by PC Frenchmans Hayday and out of KG Justiceweexpected, known as “Issy.”
Issy has her own place in Grimes’ career. The black mare carried her to her first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification in 2017.
Her story also began in an unusual way — according to the WPRA, Issy was the result of the first embryo-transfer attempt performed by Grimes’ veterinarian. Years later, her son is now making history of his own.
Showie had already demonstrated remarkable consistency during his futurity year, setting arena records and earning significant prize money. But even Grimes admitted that a 16.31-second run was beyond what she had imagined.
The Race Toward the NFR Continues
The record comes at an important point in the 2026 season.
As of the WPRA World Standings update published on August 26, Grimes sits 16th with $90,525.12 in earnings. Austyn Tobey currently holds 15th place with $91,862.64.*
That leaves only $1,337.52 separating Grimes from the Top 15 as the race toward the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo continues.
Whatever happens during the remainder of the season, one thing is already certain: Kathy Grimes and KG Just Money have put their names in the WPRA record books — with 16.31 seconds that will be hard to forget.
